Bates, B.C., and Townley, L.R. (1985), Estimation of parameters and uncertainty in a runoff routing model, Hydrology and Water Resources Symposium, The Institution of Engineers, Australia, Sydney, May 1985.

Calibration of the RORB runoff routing model is usually carried out on a subjective basis; however, this approach can lead to biased parameter estimates and consequently to poor estimates of design floods. As an alternative approach, a weighted least squares calibration procedure which largely overcomes these problems is developed. Techniques for evaluating the errors in the parameter estimates and their effects on the accuracy of model predictions are examined. The results of a case study are presented, using data from the Little Dandalup River catchment in the Darling Range of Western Australia.
